If you're interested in a class, please register by email in advance to reserve a spot - Some classes are limited to a specific amount of people. If I get too many people, I may do the same class in the afternoon. If the schedule does not suit you and you are interested by a private class for yourself or your group or school at a very affordable price, contact me.

From the 210, exit Osborne and go east on Foothill to Orcas Ave., then go south into the park. We’ll meet in the parking area at the end of the park. Look for a red Wrangler Jeep.

Sunday - February 7
Monthly Meeting - Exploring the Urban Wilderness

Let's take off on a hike (actually more like a walk) and explore the urban wilderness and see what we can find. We'll look at wild food, animals living in the city, shelters and whatever we find during our hike. It's very informal but always interesting. Anyone interested in wild food and self reliance is welcome. People usually attending have a wide variety of experience and knowledge. The goal is to learn from each others. Even is you are a complete novice, you are welcome to attend. The goal is to learn from each others. If anyone is interested, I also provide information about local experts (wild food, survival skills, outdoor skills, etc...) and classes being offered in the Los Angeles area.

Time: From 10:00 am. to around 1:00 pm

Sunday - February 21
Using Aromatic Wild Plants (Incense, Smudge Sticks and more...)

During this class, we'll go on a short hike and learn about some local aromatic wild plants such as White Sage, Black Sage, Brittlebush, etc... and learn how to make smudge sticks and create incenses through various methods (making incense pellets with honey/fruits, creating incense cones, etc...) and I'll share some of my favorite incense recipes.

Gourmet Wild Food Class

During this class we will take a short hike and forage for a couple of specific plants. We'll learn how to cook the plants and various "gourmet" recipes that can be made with them – such as soup, tea, etc.... Some of the cooking will be done on location; And, I'll bring some pre-cooked dishes as well. Be ready for an interesting culinary experience!
Time: From 10 A.M. to around 1 P.M.

Introduction to Primitive Trapping

What if you were lost in the wilderness, didn't even have a knife and had to rely on your skills to survive? During this class we will learn how to make basic traps and snares using natural fibers. We'll make regular snares, trigger snares, deadfall snares and more... We won't do any actual trapping.

Urban Hygiene - Making your own organic soap
In this class we will learn how make a basic soap (Castille Soap) from organic olive and coconut oil. It's a very good introduction to soap making for those who are interested in making their own organic soaps. You'll also be provided with some recipes for various kinds of soaps that you can make at home.

Introduction to Tracking

In this class, you will learn some of the basics of tracking such as those used in search and rescue-type scenarios. This includes; how to create a "tracking" stick and use it to actually follow tracks; what are the various signs and how to read them; what to look for and how to train yourself to see signs, etc...

The materials of this course are based on the tracking methods of Jack Kearney (who was a tracker and a border patrol agent), his book and methods are used by most rescue teams. We'll also do some drills by actually tracking someone for a short distance. Some of those skills will be applicable to animal tracking.

Urban Preparedness/Survival - Water Purification

Probably one of the most important skill to have if you live in the Los Angeles area. In this class we will look at the following topics: How much water do you actually need? How much should you store? What could kill you or make you sick? The various methods to filter/purify water (including primitive methods) and where do you find water?

This is a very hands-on class, we'll also hike to a nearby river and construct a primitive water filtration system.

Urban Preparedness/Survival - Grid-Down Cooking

During a disaster (flooding, earthquake, wildfire), the power grid could be down for a substantial amount of time. In this class we will review the various methods that you could use to cook your food and build an "emergency stove" with materials you can find easily in your home/apartment.

Introduction to Food Preservation

Food preservation is an essential skill to have. From a slf-reliance/preparedness perspective, in case of a long term emergency and the food supply chain is disrupted, knowing what food to store, how to preserve your own food, how long you can store it, what can make it spoil, etc...should definitely be part of your preparedness arsenal.

During the class, we'll discuss the various methods of food preservation and learn (by doing it) how to preserve essential foods such as grains, rice and beans for many years. We'll also look at what's existing on the market in terms of preparedness/survival food (MRI, Freeze-dried food, etc...) and have a nice lunch with it.

Food Preservation - WATER BATH CANNING

This is a very hands-on class. During this class we will learn how to preserve food through canning (some call it jarring which is probably more appropriate). We'll discuss which methods (Water-Bath Canning or High Pressure Canning) is the most appropriate for what food and do a canning project using the water bath method.
